Running an outdated version of MDaemon Email Server can expose your organization to security risks, compatibility issues, and missed productivity features. If your MDaemon installation predates version 21, or if you’re still using a 32-bit build, now is the time to plan an upgrade.
This guide walks you through what’s changed since MDaemon 21, important upgrade requirements, and the recommended upgrade path to get you safely to the latest version.
What’s New Since MDaemon 21
Recent versions of MDaemon include several major enhancements designed to improve security, collaboration, and usability:
- Google Drive integration for MDaemon Webmail
- Microsoft OneDrive integration for MDaemon Webmail
- Appointment scheduling (Video tutorial)
- Send-As permissions (Video tutorial)
- Passwordless authentication
- … and much more
These features are available only in newer MDaemon releases and are a strong reason to upgrade if you’re running an older version.
Important Upgrade Requirements to Know First
Before upgrading MDaemon, review these key system and compatibility considerations:
- MDaemon 25.5 requires Windows 10 or Windows Server 2012 or newer
- 32-bit versions of MDaemon are no longer supported
(MDaemon 22.0 and later are available only in 64-bit) - Cyren AntiVirus has been replaced with Ikarus AntiVirus (Note: MDaemon AntiVirus is a licensed feature available via additional purchase).
How to Upgrade MDaemon in Increments (Best Practice)
For maximum stability, especially on older servers, we recommend upgrading MDaemon in stages:
- Upgrade to MDaemon 21.5.6 (32-bit)
This is the final supported 32-bit release. - Install MDaemon 21.5.6 (64-bit)
This transitions your system to the required architecture. - Upgrade to the latest MDaemon version (25.5.2 currently)
