2023 End of Year Wrap-up

By Brad Wyro

As we close out another year and move full-speed ahead into 2024, we'd like to share the following message from Alan Nauman, our CEO.

As the year closes, we would like to express our sincere gratitude for the trust you put in us every day. This year has been one of the most event-filled years in our 26-year history. It is also a testament to resilience in the face of adversity and our appreciation for the unwavering support of our customers and partners. So, I'd like to reflect on events that shaped a busy year of challenges and achievements.

According to the website Statista, as of 2023 over 72 percent of businesses worldwide have been affected by ransomware. Although we had the unfortunate experience of being among that 72 percent, we fully recovered from the late 2022 attack and have emerged stronger. Because we continue to receive occasional questions about our recovery, I would like to make clear the outcome of our efforts:
  • There has been no forensic evidence found that any data exfiltration occurred from our servers.
  • We conducted security screening of all software install files and related files or documents that were previously distributed, conducted a full audit and scan of the digital signature of every installer file to validate the accuracy of each code-signing certificate, and audited the software source code database and software build processes to ensure that no malicious elements or objects were present at any stage during the software build process.
  • We enhanced our network security and ongoing monitoring and implemented measures that safeguard your data and maintain the integrity of your information.
If that event wasn't challenging enough, we also had the surprise announcement that our longtime security technology partner, Cyren, decided to liquidate the company without any prior warning. Our team responded quickly and found a new antivirus replacement, tested, and implemented a solution in record time. The Outbreak Protection antispam feature took a little longer and that feature was restored, as well. The result of the Cyren demise has been that we now have more efficient, accurate, and reliable security technologies for the MDaemon Email Server and SecurityGateway products.

Additional partner activities for 2023 included a new layer of security from Spamhaus and updated interoperability with eM Client, with more to come on those benefits in early 2024.

Our commitment to continuously adding new features went beyond our security focus. With the release of MDaemon 23.5, we introduced AI productivity features to MDaemon webmail and implemented integrated calendar scheduling and password assist functionalities, released an app on the Microsoft Store that supports seamless integration with Microsoft Teams, and added new features and fixes aimed at helping customers save time and money.

As we look forward to 2024, the new year will bring its share of challenges and opportunities. We're excited to be entering our 27th year in business and we will continue to rely on the input from our customers and channel partners to deliver simple, secure, email and security software. Let's forge ahead with a spirit of innovation, collaboration, and a shared commitment to excellence.

On behalf of the dedicated employees at MDaemon Technologies, we wish you a joyous holiday season and a prosperous New Year!
