Introducing SecurityGateway 11 – with AI Email Classification, OAuth support for Microsoft 365, and more!

By Brad Wyro

SecurityGateway for Email has been improved with new features to identify and categorize spam, enhance interactivity with custom mail flow charts, improve integration with Microsoft 365, and more. Here’s a brief summary. More complete details can be found in the SecurityGateway release notes.

AI Classification to Classify Messages by Content

SecurityGateway's new AI Classification feature enhances email security by using artificial intelligence to analyze message content and classify messages  by type. Custom AI prompts can be used to provide context to the AI provider for a more personalized approach to email scanning. The AI provider (OpenAI / ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and others) can then return email classification labels based on your prompts (Legitimate, Phishing, Commercial, PII_Detected, etc.). Based on the classification label returned, configurable actions can be taken (reject or quarantine the message, redirect the message, add points to the message score, tag the subject header).

These new AI classification features have the following benefits:

  • Advanced Threat Detection: Identify sophisticated phishing attempts that traditional filters might miss.
  • Sensitive Content Identification: Detect messages containing Personally Identifiable Information (PII) or other sensitive data.
  • Improved Filtering: Filter unwanted messages (e.g., unsolicited commercial emails) with greater accuracy.

Drill-down Point & Click Interactivity in Custom Dashboard Reports

Custom dashboard reports now support drill down, point & click features. You can simply click on a chart element or data point to view the corresponding messages.

OAuth Support for Microsoft 365 User Verification

OAUTH Authorization is now supported for Microsoft 365 User Verification Sources when logging into the administration interface.

This approach is more secure and allows the use of Microsoft 365 two-factor authentication. When a user’s domain is configured to use a Microsoft 365 User Verification Source, the user is redirected to the Microsoft 365 authorization URL to complete the login process. Upon a successful Microsoft 365 login, the user’s browser is redirected back to SecurityGateway.

Other Improvements for SecurityGateway 11

  • The database has been updated to Firebird 5.0
  • The connecting IP address has been added as an available column to the message log
