In our last post, we discussed how to troubleshoot a missing inbound email in MDaemon (read it here). Today, we flip the scenario & discuss how to troubleshoot outbound email delivery issues.

Few support tickets are as common, or as frustrating, as "I was expecting an email and it never showed up." As an MDaemon administrator, your task is to determine the cause, which could be anywhere along a chain that stretches from the sender's outbox, across the internet, through your DNS and security layers, into MDaemon's queues and filters, and finally out to the user's mail client.

What's New in MDaemon 26.5

MDaemon 26.5 adds support for load balancers, a faster way for IMAP clients to move messages, and a refreshed Webmail theme. It also brings improvements to the ticketing system and Webmail security settings, plus the ability to brand the sign-in pages for Remote Administration and Webmail. October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, which means it’s a good time for IT administrators and MSPs to review their email defenses. When an MDaemon service stops unexpectedly - SMTP, Webmail, ActiveSync, or any of the others, every minute of silence is a minute your users aren’t sending or receiving mail. The good news is that you don’t need a third-party monitoring tool to catch these events. Windows ships with a built-in feature, Performance Monitor, that can watch for a stopped service and send an email alert the moment it detects one.

This guide walks through the full setup end-to-end: creating the performance counter alert, adding it to a PowerShell script that sends you a notification email, and testing the whole chain so you can be confident it will work when you actually need it.

Many of our customers are using both MDaemon and SecurityGateway™ together for their email security and messaging needs. Both products are loaded with anti-spam, anti-spoofing, encryption & other security features, and while some features are unique to MDaemon or SecurityGateway, many are found in both products, and therefore can be disabled in MDaemon as long as they are enabled in SecurityGateway.
